The new Montero Sport GTV 4x4 AT and GLS-V 4x2 AT is now powered by 2.5 Liter 4 In-Line DOHC 16-Valve with Variable Geometry Turbocharger and Intercooler 4D56 diesel engine.
the VGT technology, the Montero Sport's Common Rail Diesel engine now pumps out 178 PS and 350Nm of torque and assures optimized engine efficiency and performance at any engine speed.
The Variable Geometry technology reduces the lag time and increases overall efficiency across the entire RPM range.
Aside from being powerful, durable and dependable, this engine has been noted to be, responsive and economical. To add more excitement to driving,
the new Montero Sport GTV is now equipped with 5-Speed INVECS-II automatic transmission with Sportronic mode and complemented with Magnesium Alloy paddle shifters for spirited and exhilarating drive.
INVECS-II is a proprietary transmission technology by Mitsubishi Motors Corp. that intelligently adapts to an individual's driving style.
For four wheel drive fun, the Montero Sport is equipped with the Super Select 4WD system which is the same type found on the current Pajero.
The secret of this system is its synchronized free-wheel front differential which lets the driver switch from 2WD to high-range 4WD even at speeds up to 100 km/h - and back at any speed with just a movement of the lever.
The Montero Sport GTV is also equipped with a hybrid type limited slip differential which provides additional assurance that power will be transmitted as positive traction to all wheels.
Extensive research and development was invested in making sure that the Montero Sport GTV has superior riding comfort than the competition.
The excellent riding comfort of the Montero Sport is made possible by its front double wishbones with coil springs, and a rear 3-link coil suspension with a long trailing arm design. Both ends are fitted with stabilizer bars to reduce body roll during cornering.
A power assisted rack and pinion steering system provides good road feel, better response, and a class leading turning radius of only 5.6 meters.
Slowing down does not seem to be a problem with the front 16" ventilated disc brakes, rear 16" Drum-In-Disc, and Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) that works in tandem with the Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD).

The entertainment system is now upgraded and features 1-DIN In-Dash 7-inch Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) monitor with touch screen interface, DVD/CD/ MP3 AAC/WMA/ WAV/ Tuner with preset stations.
The Multimedia Entertainment System also ensures versatility in function for any media you use it with whether playing DVDs/VCDs/CDs, iPod or iPhone, or USB devices. Accessing the vehicle's vital information is now made easier with the new Multi Information Display System. Information such as Outside Temperature, Fuel Consumption, Speed, Range, Direction (Compass), Outside Pressure, Elevation, and Periodic Service Maintenance reminder are among the information available with just a touch on the LCD screen.
In addition, both Montero Sport GTV and GLS-V models are equipped with Global Positioning Navigation System which will assist the driver to navigate easily through various thoroughfares. Integrated also to the Multi-Information system of the Montero Sport GTV variant is the Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) which relays the real time condition of all tires such as air pressure and temperature.
After its debut in the Philippine market in August 2008 the Montero Sport instantly captured the market making it the top selling SUV in its category from 2009 to 2010.
